Welcome to my blog
Hi I am Janet Zhou, a human rights defender based in Zimbabwe. I am passionate about the development of my country and continent at large. I am driven by my experiences to work and share on socio-economic justice issues that range from the fulfillment of social and economic rights, public finance management, trade justice, natural resources governance and community development.
I believe the challenges we face today emanate from local, national, regional and global trajectories that forcefully determine how people live. Decisions are made on a day to day basis about how people should live their lives by people who are remotely connected to realities on the ground. I strongly believe and I have that, citizens, no matter how remotely they are located from the epicentre of decision making, they have a right to be involved and to be heard. In actual fact the citizens must form the diverse epicentres of decision making. That takes systemic changes and reforms if not complete deconstruction and reconstructing a new that ‘centres’ the citizens in decision making. I have worked for the past 16 years to build movements of the often marginalised voices to be heard and to influence policy. On this Blog I will be sharing on issues and policies that are made at a local, national and global level that affect people in Zimbabwe, SADC and in Africa. I hope to share through experiences of my own and also of those that I interact with.
I enjoy learning and always reviving my passion for international governance and development and analysing the applicability of these back home.
